凌晨3:00，有25至30人在Opernplatz的一个喷泉上互相袭击。由于一个人大量流血，警方进行了干预并试图解决争端。闹事者大量向警察扔瓶子，随后，旁观者鼓掌并开始喊叫。其中一位特别出色地表现出自己的能力，投掷了约20瓶酒，并鼓励其他人效仿。一个人在歌剧院塔和歌剧院广场之间的街道上扔了两个垃圾桶，此时大约有500至800人仍在歌剧院广场。骚乱升级后，警察要求增援。警察采取防护措施，并试图从两侧包围人群。逮捕了40名暴乱者。一名女性，39名17至23岁之间的男性，“主要有移民背景”。其中有九个来自法兰克福，其余来自周边地区，例如奥芬巴赫和哈瑙，甚至还有一个来自海德堡。法兰克福歌剧院广场的巴士站受损。
此次行动中有五名警察受伤，几辆紧急车辆也被损坏。法兰克福市长彼得·费尔德曼（SPD）谴责了这次袭击。并在推特上写道：“暴徒的行为是绝对不能接受的。所涉者必须立即追究责任。” 他还呼吁增加警察在这些地区巡逻。
