因法国在委内瑞拉政局问题上支持美国方案，即政权从总统马杜罗转移至反对派领袖瓜伊多。在2019年法国承认瓜伊多为委内瑞拉代理总统，被委内瑞拉总统马杜罗称其干预委内瑞拉内政。法新社引述使馆方称，罗曼·纳达尔大使的居所自从5月2日以来受到了委内瑞拉情报部门的干扰，其所在道路入口和出口均被路障封堵。大使的居所也从5月3日起被断电，不得不使用发电机供电，同时又因为供水泵工作需要柴油，而柴油配给车无法开进所在道路，而无水可用。

13日法国召见委内瑞拉驻巴黎大使，抗议法国在加拉加斯外交代表近期的遭遇。就此，法国外交部副发言人表示，“法国强烈谴责近日有损加拉加斯法国外交代表正常公务的行为，这违背了维也纳公约，有损法国与委内瑞拉的外交关系”。要求委方“立即停止相关做法，恢复法国驻委内瑞拉大使馆的正常运转”。
