国民党立法院党团10月6 日在台湾立法院提出“台美复交”及“政府应请求美国协助抵抗中共”两项议案，获得民进党支持，在立法院快速通过。
据BBC援引台湾东海大学政治系教授沈有忠分析报道，此次国民党党主席江启臣推动这两项议案，对内意义大于对外，象征意义大于实质，决议案比较接近政治宣示性质，而且对于行政部门没有法律拘束力。沈有忠认为，这项决议案，应该是江启臣对内要挽救国民党支持度的探底，并且希望用民意支持去稳住自己在国民党党主席的地位，在即将到来的党主席选举胜出。
江启臣今日（10月7日）接受台湾广播节目时表示，如果国民党执政，两岸关系不会那么紧张，他又说北京一直说要争取台湾民心，他因此希望双方彼此尊重。
国民党马英九针对台美关系的发言，高调对外表示，台海局势是美国航空母舰落后，无法支援台湾，两岸发生冲突，美国不可能来协助台湾。
国台办发言人朱凤莲称，当前造成台海形势复杂严峻紧张，根本原因是民进党勾连外部势力，不断采取台独分裂挑衅行动，岛内有识之士和负责任的政党对此都应清醒认识、高度警惕、坚决反对。朱凤莲接着警告：国民党有关人要明辨是非，不要做“损害中华民族根本利益”和“两岸关係和平稳定的事”。当晚以书面回答台湾媒体提问时称，台湾是中国不可分割的一部分，两岸同属一个中国是不可改变的历史和法理事实。陆方坚决反对任何製造台湾独立、“两个中国”或“一中一台”的分裂行径。两岸的事是“两岸同胞的家裡事”，绝不容许任何外部干涉。
